I think its just the matter of people are wondering why the people that know him are not like " peter... are you okay?" I think people would be less "auuurrrg" if the people around him notice something but they are trying to find a way to approach peter about it...
Well, some people have noticed and been concerned; the Avengers even dragged the guy in and ran tests. And he has kind of been through some heavy shit lately, like Ends of the Earth, Silver Sable dying on his watch after he’d sworn that no one would. It just seems far more likely that he’s going through a nasty dark phase than that his mind has been taken over by a dead supervillain, especially when, iffy methods aside, he’s still acting in hero mode.
This isn’t even the first time that Peter’s gone through a dark phase — he was positively grim at the start of the Clone Saga, to the point of Ben Reilly kind of griping at him for it — to the point where even Doctor Octopus himself noticed (ASM #397).
Now, of course, Otto being Otto (and here I invoke the southernism of “bless his heart” which goes along with the facepalming and all), the odd little changes are getting bigger and bigger. I ain’t denying that; I don’t think anyone is. Eventually, the cat is going to get out of the bag (or the octopus out of the aquarium), and I think that climax is gonna happen pretty soon.
(Though, you know, even then, I can see for a time where people might ignore the bigger changes the way the proverbial frog ignores the heating water in the pot.)
Blurgh. I’m probably explaining this poorly (debate has never been my strength) and Tumblr’s little writing window is irritating the heck out of me… and I actually do have to get some work done on a final project, so I’m just gonna leave this here.
…I will say, though, that I do get annoyed at the people who seem to feel compelled to go on and on and on and on at length on public forums about how they hate SSM and Dan Slott. I get annoyed when people consistently respond to mention of a thing by butting in about how they don’t like that thing. (Or maybe I just get tired of defending the stuff I like. Or both.)
